Team Dan Dan

Last June my friends Anna and Dan got married. It was a great day, the sun shined, the bride looked beautiful, the speeches were tear jerkers, the alcohol flowed and a good time was had by all.

This June, the day before what would have been their first wedding anniversary, a group of us will be walking the Starlight Walk with Anna, in memory of Dan.

Dan died in February this year after a long fight with a very aggressive brain tumour. He spent his final weeks in Prospect Hospice in Wroughton, just down the road from his home. The difference the support of the hospice made to his quality of life in those final weeks, and to that of his family and friends, was immeasurable.

So, in 77 days, a group of us will gather and walk 15k around Swindon. The Starlight Walk is a ladies only event but we’re hopeful that we’ll manage to persuade a few boys to don a wig and some fake boobs to come along. At the moment our team consists of Anna, her sister Tracy and me and we’ve set ourselves a fundraising target of £500. I know times are hard and everyone is feeling the pinch, but if you have any spare pennies I’d really appreciate a donation to Prospect to enable them to continue the brilliant work that they do. You can make a donation here: Thank you.

  1. Thanks for commenting and for your donation.

It is sad, but I wrote this post after a few drinks and some reminiscing – doesn’t do Dan justice or capture how amazing he was 🙂 Neither does it share how amazing his wife was, and is. I’ll make sure I blog something better about their experience between now and June.

The walk gives us all something to aim for, and an excuse to ensure that we’re there for Anna, in a suitably hungover but supportive way for their anniversary. Dan wouldn’t want it any other way 🙂
